Thankfully, we have excellent substitutes. The best ones are abundantly available and affordable. Even better – they’re probably in the kitchen and fridge already.
Say hello to fruit! Fruit makes for tasty and healthy snacks. Most are perfectly safe for dogs in moderation! Let’s take a look at the healthiest ones.
Bananas

Bananas contain a ton of fiber, potassium, and vitamins for our pooches. Cut them into small slices or mash them up to give your dog. Like most fruit, bananas contain natural sugar. So make sure you’re not overfeeding.
Apples

Crunchy and delicious apples are perfect snacks for dogs! They contain a lot of Vitamin A & C. Remember to remove the seeds and peel the apples before giving them to your four-legged friend.
Blueberries

Blueberries fight heart disease, cancer, and prevent cell damage. They’re also known to help urinary tract infections. The best way to feed them to your dog is by mixing some blueberries into their regular meals.
Strawberries

Strawberries are an excellent snack option for your dog since they are full of Vitamin C. They also have an enzyme that reportedly helps to whiten teeth.
Forbidden Fruit
Certain fruits can be toxic or cause serious health problems for your dog. Remember to steer clear from grapes, cherries, and tomatoes.
Break the Ice
As a rule, start slow whenever you want to add a new fruit to your pet’s diet. Give one fruit at a time. Maybe they’re allergic. Maybe their stomachs can’t handle it. A gradual introduction to fruit gives you time to observe any reactions your dog may have. Once you know which fruits they like, take it up a notch! Make homemade treats like fruit popsicles, fruit and veggie strips, biscuits, or fruit pup-cakes.
