Cristiano Ronaldo
Soccer legend Ronaldo is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. After buying Madeira Island, he and his family have been enjoying themselves in the luxury villa and exploring the island's rocky areas.
Ronaldo is used to the island life since he was born and grew up on an island. In fact, some sources tell us it was the same island that he now owns, but we cannot confirm.
Mark Zuckerberg
Zuckerberg's holdings also include a large part of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. He's been buying up land on the island for years – he has more than a thousand acres as of now.
He's been accused of trying to force other residents, especially neighbors, to sell their land to him. He's even thought to have filed several lawsuits against residents.
Rudolf Nureyev
Located by the Amalfi Coast, Il Gallo Lungo island looks like a dolphin from above. Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev bought the place for $2.4 million in 1988. He got the island redecorated with a three-bedroom mansion he enjoyed for a very limited time as he passed away in 1992.
Anyone who's interested and has sufficient coin can now rent the island for an exclusive holiday.
The Disney Family
The Disney family (as a whole, it seems) currently owns Echo Island off of Washington near British Columbia. Full of trees and sporty invigorating shorelines, the island is host to several private abodes and has lots of adventurous sights, such as trails and waterfalls.
It's unknown whether or not the Disney family actually spends any time on the island or if it's just one of their many holdings.
Ekaterina Rybolovleva
The Greek island of Skorpios has seen many billionaires. One of them is Aristotle Onassis, who is also featured on this list. In 2013, billionaire heiress Ekaterina Rybolovleva became the lawful owner of the place.
All of her billionaire friends can reach the island with their helicopters and yachts, as the place features a helipad and a yacht quay. Rybolovleva held her wedding on the 74-acre island in 2015.
Dr. Henry Jarecki
The British Virgin Islands were home to celebrity businessman Dr. Henry Jarecki for about 4 decades, starting in 1978 when he first purchased Guana Island.
Guana Island stretches over 850 acres, where you can find a luxurious eco-friendly, self-sustaining resort, which features gourmet meals. The ingredients for those gourmet meals come from the beautiful, on-location gardens and orchards.
Panayiotis Tsakos
Except for a few goats that roam around, the island of Atokos is uninhabited. The current owner is a shipping magnate, Tsakos, and a shepherd visits every fourth day to tend to the goats as part of an agreement with the owner.
There is a small chapel that visitors are allowed to see, clean and well-maintained, and there is also a simple two-story house that gives the bay the island is in its name.
David Brearley
Brearley doesn't live on Insh Island anymore. This eccentric landowner spent his time in a cave at the north end for thirty years. Now uninhabited, the island lies a mile northeast of Ellenabeich in Seil. “Insh” is derived from the Gaelic word for “The Island,” meaning it's essentially called “The Island Island.”
While a company does now own the island, and members of the public are encouraged to stay away due to difficult landings.
The Grants
Clan Grant makes up all of the inhabitants of the Isle of Ewe, a small Scottish island on the west coast of Ross and Cromarty. They have lived there since the mid-19th century.
However, we pulled a sneaky on ya: the actual owners of the island are J.I.H. Macdonald-Buchanan, who leases the island to the Grants. There used to be more families, but most of them left during WWII.
The Buchanan-Smiths
Eriska is a flat tidal island at the entrance to Scotland's Loch Creran. For more than forty years, the family of the Buchanan-Smiths, private folk, owned the island, but since 2016 it's been owned by Creation Gem, a family-owned business from Hong Kong.
The local Eriska House from 1884 is an astounding building that has been converted to a hotel and upgraded with modern amenities, thanks to the Buchanan-Smiths.
Gianni Agnelli
Known as “The Lawyer,” Gianni Agnelli controlled 4.4% of Italy's GDP, 3.1% of its industrial workforce, and 16.5% of its industrial investment in research. He was the richest man in modern Italian history.
He bought Dino Island for fifty million Lira with the aim of developing the island for elite international tourists. As a beautiful Mediterranean island, it has tons of flora and fauna that contribute to its style.
Richard Branson
This billionaire has two entries on our list. This one is for Moskito Island. He bought it for about $12.6 million, a fair share more than his first island. He's spent a fortune turning this 125-acre Caribbean spot into an upscale eco-resort.
There's also a huge pool, long nature trails, and recreation areas. 80% of the island's energy comes from renewable sources. The island is also home to the endangered ring-tailed lemurs.
Jiří Šmejc
Czech billionaire Jiří Šmejc owns the island Velaa. It boasts an incredible resort worth hundreds of millions. It consists of forty-two villas, has a Michelin-starred chef cooking at the restaurant, and sports a golf course. It's easily been voted as one of the top high-end resorts in the world.
The architect of the resort designed the island to meet the billionaire's exacting standards, allowing freedom and entertainment in equal measure.
Georges Cohen
The French entrepreneur snagged this blissful tropical bolthole back in 2000. The Caribbean island of Calivigny lies off the coast of Grenada and first caught the eye of Cohen's wife Martine, who swam ashore while moored nearby on their yacht.
She persuaded her husband to come down and take a look on the next flight, and they bought the island shortly after. Cohen founded the business Transiciel, which was later sold to Capgemini.
Raymond Burr
Burr bought himself a private island in 1965. The island was Naitauba, a four-thousand-acre island in Fiji. He oversaw the raising of copra (coconut meat) as well as cattle and orchids.
He had planned to retire there, but due to medical problems, he ended up selling the property in 1983. Burr was ranked number forty-four out of the Fifty Greatest TV Stars of All Time in 1996.
John Wayne
While Panama was trying to win its independence from the United States in 1964, John Wayne broke ranks with other conservatives, siding with Panama. His former wife Josephine was a native of the canal country.

Arnaud Henry Salas-Perez Obolensky
As part of the princely Russian Obolensky family, sometimes Arnaud Henry needs a place to get away from it all. Arnaud is a private fellow, but we at least know he owns Patroklos Island in the Saronic Gulf of Greece – about sixty-five kilometers from Athens.
It used to be a notorious haven for pirates, and it was at the center of the Israeli “Greek Island Affair.”
The du Pont Family
The du Pont family is one of the most prominent American families, as well as one of the richest. In their long history, they managed to acquire Cherry Island inside the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.
At about eight acres, it includes a pair of restored craftsman homes. Exterior features include an in-ground pool, underground utilities, and a private pier. Additional features include a shed, a boathouse, and two docks.
Jim Jannard
Jim Jannard, most famous for founding the eyewear and apparel company Oakley, Inc., is the proud owner of three different islands: Kaibu Island and Vatu Vara Island, both found in Fiji, as well as Spieden Island near Washington State.
Kaibu is two square kilometers and offers tourist attractions, while Vatu Vara is a more private island that Jannard enjoys with his family. Spieden Island has no permanent population despite having a size of more than five hundred acres.
Christopher Ondaatje
Christopher Ondaatje, a Sri-Lankan-born Canadian-English businessman, philanthropist, adventurer, writer, and – brace yourselves – bob-sledding Olympian for Canada, loves his Meisner's Island.
It's a tranquil place, not very rugged, with a freshwater lake and plenty of space for his children and grandchildren. He called it the most beautiful piece of real estate in northeast America.
Shah Rukh Khan
Thanks to Dubai's man-made islands, there are plenty more to go around for people like Shah Rukh Khan, an Indian actor, film producer, and television personality. His island is on the K Frond of the Palm Jumeirah Islands in Dubai.
The pure white villa was presented to him by Nakheel, a property developer in Dubai back in 2007, and it's the perfect holiday home for the entire Khan family.
Peter Nygård
Finnish-Canadian fashion executive Peter Nygård founded Nygård International, a company focusing on women's apparel, in 1967. With a net worth of almost a billion dollars, it's no surprise he has his own island getaway, and he even named it after himself: Nygard Cay, in the Bahamas.
In 2018, the island was seized by the Supreme Court of the Bahamas as part of a legal battle.
Nick Hexum
Hexum is a singer, songwriter, rapper, and vocalist/guitarist for the multi-platinum alternative rock band 311, as well as The Nick Hexum Quintet. He also owns, or at least owned, an island: Melody Key. Situated in the Florida Keys, it was listed in January 2017 for $7 million.
After being listed, the 5.5 acre-wide Melody Key suffered severe storm damage and later sold for the paltry sum of $3.2 million, according to the HGTV show “Island Hunters.”
Errol Flynn
The famous swashbuckler was nothing if not a party guy. On the small island known as Navy Island off the coast of Port Antonio in Portland Parish, Jamaica, he hosted plenty of bashes, despite it being only sixty-four acres.
The island's caretaker, known as the “Governor,” lived in the only house on the island. After Flynn owned the island, it has become separated into smaller lots for private getaways.
Peter Munk
Peter Munk is a Canadian businessman who owns the world's largest gold mining company. His island, Jacklin Island, is inside the Georgian Bay, which is home to tens of thousands of islands. In fact, the total number is unknown, but there are at least thirty thousand.
Munk affectionately refers to Jacklin Island as a family member. With a field, a large home, swimming pools, boatyards, and more amenities, it's a home away from home for this hard-working businessman.
Charles Lindbergh and the Heidsieck Family
American pilot Charles Lindbergh was the first pilot – the first person – to fly across the Atlantic Ocean solo. He made the historic flight in 1938, and afterward, he planned on retiring to his private island, which he bought for a mere sixteen thousand dollars or about one dollar per square yard.
Île Illiec is in Brittany, France. Nowadays, it's owned by the legendary Heidsieck business family.
Jörg Pilawa
Famous German TV host Jörg Pilawa not only owns Hunt Island in Nova Scotia, but he also rents it out for functions. The lake it's located in, Ponhook Lake, is a popular spot for both tourists and locals, with numerous islands and scenic coastal areas.
Pilawa is a famous TV host whose credits include hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 when Germany hosted it. He's been in television since 1994, and he's been in the entertainment business since 1987.
Ted Turner
Media mogul Ted Turner bought St. Phillips Island off the South Carolina coast in 1979, a year before he launched CNN. The purchase also included almost three hundred acres on neighboring St. Helena island, which was a communal refuge of the descendants of the Gullah people.
A dispute over the land resulted in a lawsuit by Turner, but he later dropped the suit and donated dozens of acres to the group in 2002. St. Phillips is private property and is being watched by a caretaker.
Lindsay Lohan
In January 2018, the "Mean Girls" star announced her intention to add to her growing aspirations of entering into the hospitality industry by designing her own island in Dubai's revived "The World" project.
Lindsay Lohan posted across her social media platforms, the 6.2-acre beach and marina plan would be named Lindsayland.
John Mallone
John Malone owns Sampson Cay in the Bahamas — it is one of the 365 islands within the Exuma Chain. The island was home to the resort once, but it has since closed for commercial use.
The property extends 506 feet beside the ocean, but the island is now only open to his family and friends.
Craig McCaw
The cellphone tycoon Craig McCaw and his wife together own this 780-acre island just beside the coast of Vancouver. With such luxurious facilities as a private harbor and spa, it's a fantastic private retreat fit for a billionaire.
It's also home to the primary residence mansion, a golf course, and an airstrip. It was later listed for an impressive $75 million.
Paul Tudor Jones
The Hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones owns a triad of private islands. It's quite interesting that three islands spell out his initials when seen from above. Rumor has it that his islands are human-made, but that remains unclear.
Paul's trio of islands is part of a 3,000-acre wildlife reserve he owns on the Chesapeake Bay in the state of Maryland.
Roman Abramovich
The Russian magnate Roman Abramovich acquired St. Petersburg's New Holland Island back in 2010. He bought the already developed island with the purpose of building a $400 million art museum.
The island had reopened to the general public in a reduced capacity in 2011 before becoming a year-round public area in the summer of 2016.
The Emir of Qatar
The Emir of Qatar has set aside a not-too-modest amount of $11 million to pay for this collection of six Greek islands in the Ionian Sea.
The Emir of Qatar is the king and leader of the state of Qatar, and since June 2013, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the current Emir.
Louis Moore Bacon
The fabulously wealthy Hedge fund manager and investor, Louis Moore Bacon, gained the lease for Robins Island. Located beside the coast of Long Island, it cost $11 million in 1993.
Louis Moore Bacon is also a conservation philanthropist who created The Moore Charitable Foundation to provide financial aid to nonprofit organizations that strive to conserve and protect the environment and wildlife.
Larry Ellison
Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle, the second-largest software company in the world, has also bought his own private island, which was purchased around $500 and $600 million.
It's absolutely an impressive amount of money, and it's actually the most expensive private island on this list!
Dean Kamen
Many people might not know who Dean Kamen is, but we all certainly know what a Segway is. Dean Kamen is the inventor and creator of Segway and, apparently, now he is wealthy enough to afford his own private island!
Kamen didn't purchase his property in the Bahamas, as many other rich and famous people do, but bought a small 2-acre island in the state of New York.
Larry Page
Larry Page, the co-founder of Google and one of the wealthiest people in the world, also joined the private island club and bought his own piece of land, surrounded by water in the British Virgin Islands.

Alejandro Sanz
Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro, better known as Alejandro Sanz is a Spanish musician and composer. Alejandro has won 17 Latin Grammy Awards and three Grammy Awards. He has also purchased a 700-acre island in the Bahamas for $16 million.
A hotel property already existed on the island when he purchased it, but as the new owner, he may develop it further.
Brooke Shields
For years, Brooke enjoyed her Emerald Island while enclosed by towering trees, the privacy in the middle of Chazy Lake, which belongs to the gorgeous Adirondacks Park.
The Islet has a small, tree-lined private dam that connects to the shore, but apart from that, this 8.5 acres piece of earth is completely secluded.
Aristotle Onassis
The shipping billionaire — and later husband to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis — owned Skorpios, a private island on the Ionian Sea.
It was first bought in 1963, and upon Onassis's passing, the island was transferred to his eldest daughter Christina, and then in turn to her daughter Athina, who is now the only surviving heir. Aristotle Onassis, his son Alexander, and his daughter Christina were all buried on the island.
Tatiana Casiraghi
Princess Caroline's daughter-in-law arrived with an extraordinary dowry when she married Pierre Casiraghi back in 2015: a set of five private islands.
The collection of islands has been owned by the Casiraghi family since the early 1700s. The Borromeo islands — which also hosted the couple's wedding — features terraced gardens, Renaissance dwellings, separate churches, a convent-fort, as well as strict privacy.
Michael Schumacher
This island was given a gift to Michael Schumacher by Dubai crown prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and its worth is $7 million. The only way to reach this isolated island is by boat or helicopter.

Francis Ford Coppola
The director of "Godfather," along with his family, operates six remote hideaways across the globe. Three of them are around Central America, including Turtle Inn, which is a jungle getaway retreat on the coast of Belize.

Bear Grylls

Gene Hackman
Hollywood legend Gene Hackman used to own a tiny island among Washington's San Juan Islands. On it, he built the main house that includes 3-bedrooms with a 360-degree deck and two guest houses for his visitors.
In 2008 he decided to sell his place, only to purchase another island located in British Columbia, Canada.
Celine Dion
Celine owned a private Floridian island, located on the Rivière des Mille Îles in Canada's Québec, where she built an incredible mansion in the style of a French Normand Chateau. She moved there with her family in 2001 after a three-year remodeling project.

David Copperfield

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
The power couple made their own slice of heaven on a private isle. They bought the 20-acre island, called "L'ile de Agnes," in 2006. Located near the Bahamas, their getaway features a four-bedroom home that they built from scratch (with the help of designers and architects, of course.)
They also had to build all the infrastructure, like electricity and running water, before they could make their 15,000 square foot vacation home on the island.

Musician Lenny Kravitz bought the lease of an island in the Eleuthera archipelago in the Bahamas, where his mother was from. While on his visits to his home on Eleuthera, he lives a simple life, peaceful and quiet.

In 2005, Leonardo DiCaprio bought the lease of the Blackadore Caye island, which is located off the coast of Belize. The island possesses a diverse ecosystem of land and marine species, recognized internationally as part of the 'Mesoamerican Biological Corridor' region.
As an outspoken climate change activist, Leo made sure to oversee the design and construction of his eco-conscious retreat on the isle and the "restorative island" opened to guests in 2018.
Shakira
In 2011, Shakira coupled up with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters to purchase the island of Bonds Cay together. Their island is situated just north of the Bahamas and more than 500 acres in size. It's reportedly valued at $16 million.
