As much as we love the furrier members of our family, it’s no secret that they might be a tiny bit more prone to accidents than the rest of us. Stains in Fabrics
Don’t stress. “Removing pet stains” is one of the most Googled questions. It’s a little tough, but certainly not undoable. Here’s exactly what you need to do for carpets, mattresses, washable and non-washable fabrics, and hardwood surfaces.
- For carpets, sponge the area with cold water. Apply carpet cleaning detergent and rub gently until it’s nice and foamy. Rinse it with cold water and dab until almost dry. Add some drops of disinfectant to eradicate any lingering smells.
- For mattresses, lather the affected spot with upholstery shampoo with a wet sponge. Wipe it down with some cold water, if needed, add some disinfectant to be extra safe.
- For non-washable fabrics, make a vinegar solution (15ml vinegar to 500ml water). If it’s a dry stain it’s best to clean that professionally.
- For washable fabrics, first, rinse the stained area with cold water. Once that is done, make a solution of biological detergent and soak it overnight. Simply Machine-wash as normal.
- For hardwood surfaces, dab some white vinegar to the affected area. The reputable pet owners’ website, My Pet Needs That recommends combining a fragrant oil such as lavender with the white vinegar solution to get rid of unwanted odors.
